It is to the crazy ones, the misfits, the rebels, the troublemakers, the ones who see the world differently, who don't fit neatly into boxes, and refuse to live by someone else's script. You can quote them, you can disagree with them, you can glorify them or vilify them, you can shake your head at their ideas or be inspired by their courage. But the one thing you cannot do is ignore them. Because they change things. They disrupt what's comfortable, they challenge what's normal, and they push the human race forward. Sometimes with loud revolutions, sometimes with quiet persistence that changes everything over time. They see possibility where others see limits. Hey guys, and welcome back to the Food for Thought Faithcast. I'm your host, it's B Rob. And I'm in the house today. How are you doing? I got a question for you. I got a question for you today.
How teachable are you? Really? How teachable are you? Not like when somebody's telling you what you want to hear, not like, oh, you're doing a good job, not encouraging you. Not when somebody's agreeing with you. I'm talking about when somebody tells you that you're doing something wrong. How do you respond? How do you respond then? Because I've been in a season where I'm trying to grow as a leader, and I've been thinking about something. A lot of us ask God for wisdom, like, Father, show me what to do, show me how to grow, show me how to get better, show me how to be successful in what you've put in front of me, but then somebody who's already been through what we're going through tries to tell us something and we don't listen.
So that in itself makes me wonder how many times have we prayed for an answer and then argued with the person God was trying to use to bring the answer? Think about that. Because sometimes we're expecting God to answer us with a sign, and he sends us somebody with experience. That sign could be something you do not expect, someone you have no clue. See, we're expecting a miracle, but he sends instructions. We're expecting revelation, and he says, Listen to the person I put in front of you. If you look at Proverbs chapter 19, verse 20, it says, Listen to advice and accept discipline, and at the end you will be counted among the wise. Notice it doesn't say you're wise because you already know. No, you're becoming wise because you're willing to listen, you're willing to learn. Especially in business. If you look at business, if you look at life insurance, if you look at whatever business you come into, you're excited. Remember
when you first got into your business. You're excited, you're ready to go, you're motivated, you're thinking, I got this, right? Gung-ho, full of uh pee and vinegar is what they used to say back in the day. Then you get out there and realize, oh, whoa, there's a lot more to this that I don't know. And that's okay. That's quite okay. You weren't supposed to know everything on day one anyway. That's why training matters. That's why there's things called coaching, that's why having the right coach matters. Having the right mentor matters. Getting around the right people matter. You see, your coach isn't just somebody sitting above you on an organized chart, no. If you have a good one, somebody who's already been there and done that, made the mistakes, walked into the potholes, took the fire already for you. Maybe they've already heard that objection. Maybe they've already had a client like that one. Maybe they've already had that bad week. Maybe they've already wondered whether this business was going to work or not going to work for them. And maybe they've already learned that lesson. So when they try to tell you to do it this way or try it this way, or this is the way, they're not trying to control you. They're trying to save you from learning the same lesson, the hard way, the more expensive way. There's wisdom in that, there's teaching in that.
Think about Moses. Exodus 18. Moses is leading the people. He's trying to handle himself. He's trying to handle everything by himself. Jethro watches him and basically tells him, What you're doing is not good. Now hold on, right? This was Moses we're talking about. Moses heard God from a burning bush. Moses stood before Pharaoh. Moses watched God part the Red Sea, but yet the same Moses had enough humility to let somebody else teach him something. That right there preaches by himself. I mean, think about that. That alone will preach. You can be called and still need to be coached. You can be gifted and still need to be guided. You can hear from God and still have something to learn. Because God puts people in your life to teach you. So you can learn from them. Maybe they're not a good teacher. And maybe there's a lesson to be learned from that. Sometimes I think we confuse faith with thinking we have to figure everything out on our own. But that's not faith at all. Sometimes faith is trusting that God knew that he was going to do what he was going to do when he connected you with that certain person or those certain people. Now, am I saying everybody that gives you advice, you need to listen to and think they're correct? No. That's where discernment is used. That's where prayer comes. That's where looking at their fruit comes in. But when God places somebody in your life who has experience, wisdom, integrity, and fruit in an area that you are trying to grow in, I would pay attention. Why wouldn't you learn from that? That's food for thought in itself.
Don't let pride shape you because pride can make you pay full price for a lesson somebody was going to give you for free. Let me say that again. Pride can make you pay sticker price or full price for a lesson somebody was going to give you for free. A lesson that they already made that mistake. They already took that loss. They already learned that lesson. And they're saying, hey, I've already done that. Don't go that way. And you know, a lot of times we are so full of pride and we are so stubborn that we'll look them right dead in the eye and say, I need to see it for myself. Okay, you know, and I guess some lessons don't need a personal demonstration, right? I guess some wisdom isn't learned from somebody else's scar. You know? Proverbs 12:1 says, Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge, but whoever hates correction is stupid. The Bible said it. I didn't, don't get mad at me. But there's there's knowledge in that alone. There's knowledge in that verse alone. I mean, how how you respond to correction reveals how serious you are about growth? I mean, everybody wants elevation, everybody wants development, everybody wants to get to the next level. But can somebody tell you what needs what you need to change before you get there? Are you do you have thick enough skin for that? Are you willing to listen? Are you willing to correct what somebody sees? Especially somebody with good fruit. Everybody wants God to open another door. But what if God's trying to prepare you before you get to the door?
Maybe that correction you're receiving is not somebody trying to tear you down. Maybe that's the exact preparation you need. Maybe your coach sees something in you that you cannot see. Maybe your teacher recognizes a habit that will hurt you later. Maybe your mentor is trying to develop something in you that you're going to need at the next level that you don't see right now. And maybe instead of saying, why are you always correcting me? We need to start asking, Father, what are you trying to teach me through this? You see, that's a different posture. That's a posture of prayer. That's a posture of faith. And that's my food for thought for you today. Are you teachable? Can God correct you through somebody else? Can somebody who knows more than you show you a better way without you feeling threatened? Can you receive instruction without immediately having to explain yourself? Because sometimes the person who grows the fastest is not the most talented person in the room. It's the person who can hear. Show me the way, show me how. So whether you're starting a business, whether you're struggling in life, whether you're trying to grow a ministry,
whether you're raising a family, or just trying to become a better version of yourself and who God created you to be. Guys, stay teachable, stay coachable, stay humble, because you never know when the wisdom you've been praying for is going to come through the mouth of somebody that God placed right in front of you at a specific time. And here's another thought I want you to carry with you today. Before you ask God for another answer, ask yourself have you applied the last instruction he already gave you? You see, that's food for thought. My name's B. Rob. And if you do not have a relationship with Christ today, you need to get right. Let's go to the Lord in prayer. Dear Father, we thank you for your wisdom. We thank you for not leaving us to figure everything out on our own, Lord. We thank you for teachers, we thank you for coaches, we thank you for mentors, leaders, and people that you place along our path every day. Lord, just give us discernment to know who you sent into our lives. And Lord, give us humility to receive what you're trying to teach us through them. Father, just remove any pride we may have from our hearts. Lord, and when correction comes, please help us not to immediately become defensive, Lord. Help us to listen. Lord, help us to examine our own hearts and ourselves. Lord, help us to bring everything before you and ask, What are you trying to help us with today, Lord? What are you trying to coach and train us and teach us with today, Lord? And Lord, as we grow, please allow us to forget the people who have hurt us. And please allow us to focus on the people who have helped us, Lord. Lord, please prepare us that one day we can become that helpful person to somebody else. And Lord, above all, give us wisdom to listen, courage to change, and the discipline to apply everything that we have learned from you and the faith to trust the process. It's in Jesus' holy, heavenly name we pray. Amen
