The Food for Thought Faithcast with Be Rob
Trust God, Work Hard, And Let The Doors Open
What if courage begins not with willpower but with presence? We start there and follow a throughline from a long workday and a single verse to a cascade of moments where service beats ego and trust outlasts hype. You’ll hear how a band stays whole by choosing the floor over the spotlight, why “work hard and trust God” is more than a slogan, and how unexpected doors open when you stop micromanaging outcomes and start walking in calling.
The conversation stretches beyond stage lights. A pastor living in a car receives help and bursts into praise. A back once riddled with fractures shows no sign of injury on new scans. A 17-year-old and his mom discover they’re both ready to step into church at the same time. These snapshots don’t try to flex; they hum with quiet authority, inviting you to rethink what provision looks like and how often it arrives through honesty, persistence, and prayer.
We also get practical about relationships. Bitterness sneaks into marriages not just because of big offenses but because of deep affection, higher expectations, and spiritual resistance. Naming that reality can save a covenant before it hardens. And in a cramped airplane aisle, a flight attendant sits, sobs, and shares how faith threads through grief and public life — a reminder that sacred moments don’t wait for stained glass. Actor Jonathan Roumie reflects on portraying Jesus in The Chosen, calling the work an intense, prayer-soaked stewardship of the most important story ever told.

Hey guys, it's B Robb, it's the Food for Thought Faithcast, and it's a beautiful Tuesday evening. I have worked my tail off today. I've driven a round trip of four hours and uh visited four different homes and measured four different people's houses for gutters or leaf filter and um dropped a little gospel on the way and but um I'm not gonna talk a lot tonight. Just want to give you the verse of the day. It comes from Judges 6, 12. When the angel of the Lord appeared to Gideon, he said, The Lord is with you, mighty warrior. So that tells me that my God is with me where I go, as long as I confide in him. It tells me that I do not have to fear, which is false evidence appearing real. I can go out in the world, I can witness to him, I can do my work, and I can make a comfortable living, and we can all be happy, and this is an amazing time to be alive. And I'm gonna leave you with that, and I've got some good clips lined up for you tonight. I'm just not gonna talk a lot, but that's okay too. But I love you guys, God bless you, and I hope you enjoy the show.
SPEAKER_07:I think you gotta have your your mindset correct, man. Um, and uh for us it's a God thing. If you are just chasing worldly things, I guess, and worried about me and how I'm getting done wrong, or how, you know, he's getting on my nerves, and that's what dictates your decisions. I can see, you know, you're gonna walk away from that because people suck and people are always gonna fail you at the end of the day. But when you turn it into a I'm not doing this for me, I'm doing this to fulfill my calling that God's giving me. Um, and then it becomes a selfless thing. You know, he who is greatest among you, let him be your servant is what I it's just always pops in my head. So it's like if I want to make this thing work, how can I serve these guys? How you know, when we'd have to share a hotel room, we would all all five always be like, I'll sleep on the floor. No, no, you're good, you take the bed, I'll sleep on the floor. We'd have to fight over who gets the floor. You know what I mean? And then once it becomes a selfless thing instead of a selfish thing, you're not I don't know, and when everybody shares that mindset, we're all worried about one another. I don't I don't really see how you could break up.
SPEAKER_13:Well, that's very unusual. And that sounds fantastic, because that's kind of the opposite of most rock and roll bands. Like most rock and roll bands, it is all about, you know, the lead singer or the lead guitarist and who's the most famous, who gets the most chicks, and who gets the most attention. Yeah, we don't care about anything. So where did that this mindset start with you? How did you guys develop this mindset? Uh is that how you grew up?
SPEAKER_07:I I grew up um that way. Yeah, my my mother used to read us the Bible as as children and stuff, so we always grew up knowing about Jesus and everything. And then so that's pretty much what led me to make the leap, I guess. You know what I mean? We I never had parents that were pushing me to go to college or pushing me to do something. They were just like, have a relationship with God. That's really the only thing that I got pushed by my parents. And so um I've always been blessed or cursed with kind of looking at all this as temporary, you know? What's the point in it kind of thing? You can't take any of it with you. And there's nothing new other under the sun, it's all chasing wind. What's the point in all this? And so that really getting into well a creator created you, he created all of this, and he put you here for a reason. Well, if that's the case, what's the reason? Okay, if this is the reason, then um I'm here I go, God, I'm gonna do it. I'm gonna I'm gonna make the leap, and I don't know what how it's gonna work out, but I'm gonna just gonna trust you, work hard and trust you, and uh and that's really all we've done. You know, there's no plan to it. We get asked quite often, how do you make it? And um I don't just work hard and trust God. That's that's all that's the only thing that I can ever think to answer with, because the the shows we've played and the doors we've walked through led to new opportunities, you know, many days, many months, many years down the road that we could have never planned. And we've just been just and then you can look back and acknowledge the the stone, the stepping stones that he was placing the whole time. And uh even if it doesn't make sense in the moment, you know, just being able to go back and look at like, wow, uh I see I see why that happened now, I see why we went through that. I see that's that's just crazy to crazy to go back and look at.
SPEAKER_13:That's very wise for a young person to think that way. Like how old do you how old do you know? Twenty-nine. Yeah, you're very young. And when you started, that's even younger. They're like to be able to think that way at an early age, there's nothing new under the sun. Like, what's my purpose? My purpose is to serve, my purpose is to do something with this gift that I've been given, and to follow this path. It's it's very unusual. I I cool. I mean, it's great. It's great, it's a great example for people. Yeah, because it is a mindset, and that mindset will serve you so much better than the other mindset.
SPEAKER_07:Yeah, man.
SPEAKER_13:The other mindset of chasing things is how you lead to Elvis on pills. Yeah, you know, it was my favorite Elvis. Yeah, dude. That was the fun Elvis 70s Elvis?
SPEAKER_07:Karate?
SPEAKER_13:Yeah.
SPEAKER_03:Thank you, Jesus. I'm having a horrible day, man.
SPEAKER_05:Makita, come here. Brother, I know God is real. I'm not gonna lie, I know who you are.
SPEAKER_03:Really? Hey, man. Oh god, what's happening? What is that?
SPEAKER_02:What's going on? Thank you, Jesus! Thank you, Jesus! Thank you, Jesus! Thank you, Jesus, thank you, Lord! I know you're real, Jesus!
SPEAKER_03:Oh my gosh! Oh my gosh! Oh gosh! What's been going on, man? What's your name?
SPEAKER_02:Pastor Will.
SPEAKER_03:Pastor Will, Jimmy, man.
SPEAKER_02:Because he kept leading me to your videos. He kept leading me to your videos. He kept leading me to your videos. And I said, if you see him, I'm gonna have to tell him I know I'm gonna be honest. I'm a pastor.
SPEAKER_05:Where do you live? Lived in this car for two years with my wife, our dog Genesis, and our one-year-old Mikhaila.
SPEAKER_04:God cares about you, he's gonna provide for you, take care of you. Because you were honest, man. I got a thousand dollars for you.
SPEAKER_02:Thank you, Jesus.
SPEAKER_09:Here I go. Guys, do you wanna tell them?
SPEAKER_01:What do you mean?
SPEAKER_09:I'll tell him. Uh guys. So I broke my back exactly two weeks ago. This is today, day 14. Uh, got an x-ray and a CAT scan. It showed that I had multiple fractures, could not move an inch without excusing pain.
SPEAKER_02:You wake up today.
SPEAKER_09:I wake up today, forget to put on my back brace, just start doing the morning. I pick Bodhi up, and then I realized wait, I'm not wearing my brace. What is going on? I'm wearing my brace right now for precaution. Order an urgent x-ray, go get the x-ray. I have complete healing in my back. I have no fractures in my back. No sign, no sign of a fracture in my back. So, praise God. We saw your book. If you're a Christian, watch this.
SPEAKER_01:So I just got off the phone with my 17-year-old son, and I was breaking the ice, letting him know that we went to church today. And he said, Why? And I said, Well, because it's this week has been a very hard and heavy week for everybody, and I felt like I had a calling, and I just wanted to have a relationship with Jesus. And he said, Wow, that's crazy because I didn't say anything, but I've had a Bible in my room for a little while, and I have felt the same way. And I said, Yeah, Hayden, I just ordered my Bible and it came in the mail yesterday. And he was like, That's cool. And I was like, Well, do you want to start going to church with us? And he said, Yeah, I do. I want to start going to church with you guys. And it made me really emotional because I'm just so happy that we're my family, we're all on the same page, and I I wasn't sure how he would react with him being 17 and you know, us never doing this before, and now we're gonna get to do all this together as a family, and I'm just so overjoyed.
SPEAKER_10:What's your verse of the day? Psalm 9419. What is that? It says, When my anxious thoughts multiply within me, your consolations delight my soul. Why is that your verse of the day? Well, whenever I feel anxiety, I just renew my mind with God's perspective, his consolation on that anxiety, and it gives me peace. Yeah, I love that. There's your verse of the day.
SPEAKER_06:Those who fear the Lord are secure, he will be a refuge for their children. Fear of the Lord is a life-giving fountain, it offers escape from the snares of death.
SPEAKER_05:Let me teach you something. My granny once told me, she says, sometime God will show you the people that you're going so hard for and the ones that you show the most love to, they ain't doing the same for you. The truth hurt, but you deserve to know it. You let that sink in.
SPEAKER_12:Don't let that go of your head. Who's the most likely person you would be bitter against your spouse? Because it is your only covenant relationship. The reason that you could be most likely to have bitterness against your spouse is because number one, you have higher expectations for them than other people. Number two, you're more vulnerable to them than you are anyone else. Number three, you spend more time with them. So there's more opportunity for them to fail you. Number four, Satan and demons want to do all they can to destroy your marriage. It's not just the magnitude of the offense, but it is our affection for the offender that is most likely to trigger bitterness. A stranger can do something catastrophic, and 20 years later, your children are not talking about it because it has torpedoed your family. Your spouse can do something comparatively minor and it decimates you because of your affection for them.
SPEAKER_08:On the plane, when I was coming back, the male steward, flight attendant, he just didn't seem like someone who knows who I am, I guess, is a better way to say it. But he leaned in toward me and he said, At some point in this flight, can I be unprofessional? Well, I looked at Bonnie because I thought. So I said, Well, I'm not sure I understood you. And he said, At some point in this flight, can I be unprofessional? He spoke slower. And I I just apologized. I said, Look, uh I apologize. I have no idea what you're talking about. And he he looked at Bonnie and he said, Do you know what I'm talking about? And she said, No, I really don't. And he's like, Well, I would like to do something with you because I know who you are. And she then said, Oh, well, I'll I'll schedule it. She's my assistant. I thought, that's the funniest line of the whole conversation. Then once we got up to cruising altitude, she said, Okay, here's the plan. I'm gonna go to the bathroom, and that way he can sit here and take a selfie. And I thought, oh, that's the schedule, and she's like, Yeah, I was like, Well, well, great. So she did, so here's where the reason I'm telling you this story. When he sat down, he just burst into tears. And I mean, broken. As in everyone was noticing it, and I was like, What's wrong? And uh, and so he started talking about my dad, he started talking about Charlie Kirk, he started talking about his life. Wow, and uh we had a really good Jesus conversation for five minutes, then we took the selfie, and uh, I just thought that captured kind of the way people felt in this moment. I mean, he's obviously a believer in God and and had this conversation, but you know, we just needed it. So then when Bonnie came back, she's like, Well, I looked at him to say how'd it go? And she said, He was a mess. I said, Oh, you have no idea. And uh, but I said, you know, I think it was a God thing, and I think even the people who saw that thought it was a beautiful thing. And I wanted to share that because I think this is why the kingdom of God is the greatest kingdom on earth.
SPEAKER_00:Hi, I'm Jonathan, and I have the profound honor of portraying Jesus in the chosen. I just wanted to take a moment to thank you, not just for your support in watching the show, but for something just as vital to me personally. The prayers. Playing this role has been the most humbling experience of my life, and filming season six and the crucifixion. Well, it's clear that that has been the most intense journey of my career. Every day on set I'm reminded that we're not just making a television show, we're shepherding something sacred into the world, the most important story ever told. And knowing that people like you are lifting up this work in prayer. Well, that means everything to me. So thank you for being part of the community that is lifting us all up as we portray the most important moments in human history. God bless you.
